Mumbai: ‘Mumbai la kamgarancha shaap ahe’, (Mumbai is cursed by workers) such cryptic banners were put up at numerous places. Mumbaikars have been taken by surprise, as to who are the people behind these banners. These banners have created a lot of curiosity among the older Mumbai citizens, many of who believe there is some truth in it. Mumbai, with its new horizon, dotted with skyscrapers has been a city made by the workers. Suddenly, after the textile mills shut down, one saw little of these mill workers and more of white and blue collared salaried people.
After photographs of these banners went viral on social media in Marathi circles, people were curious to know who was behind it and what was their motive in putting up these banners. The mystery of these banners is not totally cut off from the reality of textile mills. A new play, ‘Todi mill fantasy’ a new play was released on Saturday at Yeshwant auditorium. Interestingly, the banners had a fine print of #TodiMillFantasy at the bottom, which most seemed to have not connected.
Todi Mill Fantasy is a play based on the textile mill workers and these banners were strategically placed in Girangaon areas, in mainly south and central Mumbai. Workers still residing in these areas were curious to know more about these banners and the strategic publicity seemed to have worked effectively.
