Drunk driving: 2,972 caught in February

HYDERABAD: As part of its ongoing drive against drunken drivers, the Hyderabad traffic police caught 2,972 people driving under the influence of alcohol in February.

The traffic police filed charges against all of them, who were produced in the third and fourth metropolitan magistrate courts in Nampally.


Among them, 755 were given jail sentences, while the driving licences of 154 persons were cancelled for periods ranging from six months to one year.


Driving licences of 25 persons were cancelled permanently.


The courts also imposed a fine amount of Rs 64,22,300 on the traffic violators.


All the violators sentenced for imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda Jail. In addition, three violators were imprisoned for dangerous driving and other top violations of traffic norms.
