GURUGRAM: Three persons were arrested from Farrukhnagar on Saturday. Nearly 2kg of powdered methadone, a narcotic, was seized from their possession. According to police, the market value of the seized narcotic substance is Rs 25 lakh. They said the accused had established a network in north Haryana and were trying to make inroads into southern parts of the state. They were allegedly on the way to supplying the drugs in Gurugram, Noida and other parts of NCR.
The accused were identified as Sudhir Singh (36) from Rewari, Vikash Singh (35) from Charkhi Dadri and Deepak (21) from Mahendargarh. The crime branch team of Farrukhnagar police station arrested the accused from Dadawas bus stand, when they were trying to smuggle the drug into Gurugram. Police said they recovered 1.858 kg of methadone powder from their possession. The drug is a part of a category called opioids, which are used to treat heroin addicts or as narcotic painkillers.
According to police, the accused were involved in drug peddling for a long time, but were limited to north Haryana before this incident. They said that it was the first time they had tried to supply drugs in Gurugram with an aim to expanding their operation in the region. “They had fixed a deal with a local but got arrested before they could hand over the drug,” an officer said.
During the initial interrogation, Sudhir and Vikas revealed they had brought the drug from a supplier in Mahendargarh to distribute in Gurugram. Deepak was supposed to distribute the drug within the city.
“We have received a few details about the person who had supplied the drug in Mahendargarh, and are trying to nab him,” said an officer.
DCP (crime) Rajeev Deshwal said the team arrested the three accused based on information they had received.
“They are a small part of a big racket. We are trying to connect the dots to track the source of the drug and the key person behind the operation,” said Deshwal, adding that they are also trying to find out the people who were supposed to take the deliveries of drug from the accused.
Police produced the accused before court on Sunday and got them for one-day police custody.
A case has been registered against the accused at Pataudi police station, under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
