Jhansi: Minister of road transport and highways, shipping and water resources, river development & Ganga rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari on Sunday announced a waterway on Betwa, a river considered as the lifeline of Bundelkhand.

“A waterways will soon be available on the Batwa. Besides, roads worth Rs 10,000 crore will be constructed in Bundelkhand to boost development in the region,” Gadkari told a gathering of people after laying the foundation of 85 development projects worth Rs 616.42 crore in the region. He was accompanied by Union minister and Jhansi MP Uma Bharti and UP deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Gadkari also promised that the river Ganga will be completely rejuvenated and cleaned in the next 13 months.

“While the waterway from Varanasi to Haldia on the Ganga is already complete, a similar waterway between Varanasi and Prayagraj has also been sanctioned. Around 1,680 kms of waterway has already been prepared on which 80 lakh tons of goods are being transported. People can now travel from Varanasi to Bangladesh and Myanmar through waterway.” “It will be ensured that there is no shortage of water in Bundelkhand. But in the past 4.5 years, we have doubled it to 14,800 kms,” he said. Maurya said BJP will come back to power with a thumping majority after the coming Lok Sabha elections.
