SRINAGAR: An anonymous blog post claimed that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, who had been reportedly injured when India launched air strikes at terror training camps at Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan on February 27, died, triggering intense speculation on Sunday. JeM dismissed the rumours and released a statement saying Azhar was alive and doing well.
Azhar died on Saturday, the blog claimed, adding that his aide Colonel Salim of ISI was also critically injured in the strikes. Azhar had apparently gone to Balakot to deliver speech to new recruits in the terror outfit, the blog said.
Indian intelligence sources said they had no information of such an event.
Other reports suggested that Azhar was last seen in Balakot in October 2018 after the death of his nephew in Indian strikes.
Last week, Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had confirmed to CNN that Azhar was in Pakistan but he was unwell.
