Punjab: Opposition tears into Governor address, call it 'bundle of lies'
The Chandigarh Housing Board, an implementing agency of the Chandigarh Administration, has completed the construction of 17,696 small flats to date.

COMPLETED TWO years ago, the Maloya Housing Complex with 4,960 flats finally saw the light of day with Administrator V P Singh Badnore inaugurating it. However, here too Badnore left from the entrance leaving the stage free for MP Kirron Kher who happily handed over allotment letters to the beneficiaries. The administration had earlier been waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the complex. Officials said Badnore was not feeling well.

“The day is dedicated to all the beneficiaries today,” said Kirron Kher, calling it an overwhelming initiative by the Chandigarh Administration towards making Chandigarh a slum-free city. However, Maloya Residents Welfare Association groused that the complex lacked basic facilities required by the residents even though its construction was completed two years ago.

“It appears only to be a photo op. They should have at least ensured the basic amenities. There is no civil dispensary, no booth market. What will 25,000 people do with one Verka booth? What will they do with bus queue shelters when there is no bus that connects this area to the city? There is no separate police post as well,” Dilsher Singh Jandiala, legal advisor of the Maloya welfare association said.

It was stated that the MP has given Rs 20 lakh for the sports equipment and other infrastructure in this complex under the MPLAD scheme. The Adviser to the Administrator, Manoj Parida, said, “I am extremely happy that Chandigarh Administration has been successful in fulfilling the dream of having one’s own house. I urge all the allotees to keep it clean which would enable Chandigarh to maintain the status of model city.”

The Chandigarh Housing Board, an implementing agency of the Chandigarh Administration, has completed the construction of 17,696 small flats to date. The administration said two schools, a community centre, Janj Ghar, seven cabins, and two bus queue shelters have been constructed for the daily needs of residents and two places have been earmarked for setting up of Verka /Vita Milk Bars.

Allotment letters to 100 beneficiaries were given during the function. To hand over the allotment letters to rest of the beneficiaries, the Chandigarh Housing Board is organising a camp at the Chandigarh Housing Board office complex, Sector 9. As many as 2,390 beneficiaries have been identified as of now.
