A drag racer who was pulled from his car seconds before it burst into flames as his family watched on has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
The driver was one of dozens taking part in Racewars, a drag race event at the Albany airport runway in Western Australia's south, on Sunday.
As his family watched on, the 26-year-old driver raced a Mustang down the track at high speeds.

The driver was luckily pulled from the car just seconds before the Mustang burst into flames, The West Australian reported.
The gearbox of the car was found 20 metres away from the vehicle.
Emergency services rushed to the scene about 12.10pm, where they found the 26-year-old in a very serious condition.
The driver was flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service about 2.50pm after receiving CPR on the scene.
The 26-year-old was put into an induced coma as he sustained life-threatening brain injuries.

It was the second crash at the event within two hours, prompting organisers to call off the event.
A man driving a Supra that hit a maximum speed of 338km/h in the morning had his parachute fail and crashed, injuring his neck.
Racewars organisers issued a statement after deciding to cancel the event: 'Motorsport is a cruel mistress at times but we all understand the risks of participation.'
'We remain committed to grassroots Motorsport and the social and safety benefits of taking speed off the streets.'
