Andhra Pradesh: 4 arrested for raping 32 women, killing 4 in two years

ELURU: West Godavari police have cracked the rape and murder case that took place near an ancient monastery at Jeelakarragudem of Kamavarapu Kota mandal on February 24. The police found that the accused, a gang of four, had raped 32 women, and killed three men and a woman in the last two years.

A young couple was attacked and the woman was raped before being killed at Jeelakarragudem on February 24. Initially it was thought that the couple was attacked in an honour killing.


West Godavari SP M Ravi Prakash on Sunday told media that the accused in the incident are serial killers. The entire episode was on the lines of the Telugu crime flick, “Gandupalyam”.

The arrested are Potluri Ankama Rao, Thupakula Somayya, Thupakula Gangayya and Nagaraju. The accused have been involved in several incidents of rape, the police said adding that so far they have got information that the arrested had raped 32 women since 2017

But only a few cases of rape were registered against them. They include two cases of rape in Krishna, one in Ibrahimpatnam, two in Nuziveedu, one in Madhira in Khammam and one case in Thadikalapudi in West Godavari district. The police have advised youngsters not to move in isolated areas.

The police said the gang has been in the habit of attacking lovers in deserted areas. They attack the male member first and they target the woman. They first rape women and then kill them, he said.

The gang attacked a couple in a plantation of Vadlamanuru in Agiripalli mandal in 2017. This was their first crime. Later, they attacked lovers in Ibrahimpatnam and Khammam district. Seven cases have been registered against them until now. They have attacked couples in 32 places since 2017 and raped the women in all instances. They had killed three men and one woman.
