QUEPEM: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, on Sunday, said that “India is a sports-loving nation but not a sports-playing nation, and I hope to transform this image of the country.”
Tendulkar was speaking at the concluding function of the #BadRoadBuddies, an off-roading event organised by Apollo Tyres in Quepem.
Speaking about the scenario of sports in India, he said that staying fit and healthy is important for today’s youngsters.
“We often say we are fit but the statistics of India don’t match with the same. There is a plenty of room for improvement. If health is taken care of, then one can focus on identifying talent and giving the right direction. This way many can bring laurels to India,” he said.
The Master Blaster also co-drove an SUV, and pleased the audience with his off-roading skills.
He said, “The off-roading experience in Goa was incredible. I did not know what to expect but after I tried I became a huge fan. It should be a regular activity here.”
At first, he expressed apprehension looking at the route, not knowing whether the car would be able to navigate through the terrain, but was explained the entire functioning.
He also spoke to the media about his off-roading experience abroad.
“I had a similar off-roading experience abroad where the water-level was up to the car bonnet but the instructor calmed me down and explained the important aspects of off-roading,” he shared.
He further said that his experience in Goa was different where he was able to focus and concentrate well which increased his interest in off-roading.
Before he left, he advised the people “to be focused and passionate in life and work on improving oneself, all the time.”
