MANGALURU: JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda hinted that his grandsons Prajwal Revanna and Nikhil Gowda may contest from Hassan and Mandya Lok Sabha constituencies respectively.
The former Prime Minister, who was in Mangaluru to attend a public function on Sunday, said that the seat sharing agreement between coalition partners –JD(S) and Congress will be completed within two weeks. “There are rumours about bickering with regard to seat sharing between us. We have put forth a demand of 12 seats, but we are not rigid in terms of seat sharing. We have decided not to provide opportunity for any difference between two parties. We will negotiate to match the expectations in seat sharing. I have told Congress that they too should have such tendency in this regard. Leader of a national party has given HD Kumaraswamy an opportunity to become chief minister of Karnataka, though we have 37 MLAs. The ultimate aim is to prevent BJP from winning at the centre,” Gowda said adding that the coalition can reduce the strength of BJP in the state.
On seat to his grandsons Prajwal and Nikhil, Gowda said he has not forced any one of his family members to enter politics. “I wanted Prajwal to pursue his higher education. However, he has been showing his complete involvement in politics for the past several elections. Hence, I have discussed the matter (Prajwal contesting from Hassan) with leaders in Hassan. Similarly, we didn’t force Nikhil to enter politics. He is engaged in film industry and he has glamour too. However, he was active during election campaigns in Mandya and people also have been requesting him to contest. It is true that I have also agreed to it. Nikhil is an aspirant for Mandya seat,” Gowda asserted.
On a demand to field actress Sumalatha Ambareesh from Mandya constituency, Gowda said there is nothing wrong in demanding seats during election. “People know that Mandya and Hassan are constituencies of JD(S), where our party has no apprehension,” he said.
On his candidature, Gowda said it is not an important issue. “I have 29 years of experience as Parliamentarian and I was the Prime Minister too. Hence, my candidature is not an issue,” he said.
On Chikkaballapura constituency, Gowda said, nothing is final. “M Veerappa Moily (MP of Chikkaballapura), himself had stated that coalition should offer 10 seats to JD(S). However, nothing is final,” he added.
