Kadaba, Moodbidri taluks to be inaugurated on March 7

Stating that Kadaba and Moodbidri taluks will be finally inaugurated on March 7, U.T. Khader, Minister for Urban Development and in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, said here on Saturday that Mulki and Mangaluru Rural (Ullal) taluks will be formed after seven months.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Khader said the government gave in-principle administrative approval for creating Mulki and Mangaluru Rural (Ullal) taluks on Thursday.

He said the restructuring of taluks will help in effective administration and implementation of government schemes.

The Minister said now people from Boliyaru and Mulki areas in Mangaluru taluk travel more than 30 km to reach the mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru to get their works, mainly revenue-related, done. When two more taluks are created, they will get their own mini Vidhana Soudha (having the office of tahsildar), office of sub-registrar, court, fire station, 100-bed government hospital, stadium, town hall and other government bhavans thus reducing the need to visit Mangaluru. It will also help to reduce traffic in the city to some extent. “Each taluk will get some government schemes and grant,” the minister said. The Minister said any new office of the tahsildar and other offices in taluks will initially work with skeleton staff.

Meanwhile, the proposal on the formation of Ullal taluk sent by the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada to the Revenue Department on February 15 recommended that the new taluk can be created by carving out 14 villages from Mangaluru taluk and 13 villages from Bantwal taluk.

A separate proposal on forming Mulki taluk sent to the department on the same day by the Deputy Commissioner said Mulki hobli comprising 30 villages can be declared as a taluk. Mulki already has the office of Special Tahsildar.
