One child dead and multiple injured in car crash in Sydney's north-west

Police have arrested a man alleged to have been the driver in a hit-and-run crash that left a child dead and two others critical in Baulkham Hills overnight.

The man's Holden Commodore is believed to have collided with six stationary vehicles at the intersection of Windsor Rd and the M2 as he exited the motorway about 7pm on Saturday.

A 12-year-old boy who had been sitting in a Holden Captiva could not be revived and died at the scene.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, a 36-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl, were taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition and the 38-year-old man driving the vehicle was also taken for assessment.

The operation involved officers from four police area commands, Traffic and Highway Patrol, the dog unit and Polair.

Shortly after 3.30am, a 34-year-old man was arrested in a house at The Circle, Narraweena and taken to Manly Police Station for further interviews.
