TIRUPUR: Tirupur: A trial court here sentenced a 26-year-old woman and her lover to life imprisonment for murdering her husband at Perumanallur in the district.
The convicts have been identified as Krithiga and her lover Mathiazhagan, 28. Police said Krithiga was married to Kesavan, of Mariyapuram at Perumanallur, and the couple had two children. Kesavan was a construction worker.
“Two years ago, Krithiga, along with the two children, moved out of her husband’s house and started to live with Mathiazhagan, with whom she had acquaintance before her marriage,” a police officer said.
Following this, Kesavan lodged a complaint with the Perumanallur police, who held an inquiry with Krithiga. She told police that she did not want to live with Kesavan. Subsequently, police admitted their two children to a government-recognized children’s home in Tirupur.
Kesavan, however, often quarrelled with Krithiga and her lover Mathiazhagan.
On June 29, 2017, Mathiazhagan, in an inebriated state, trespassed into Kesavan’s house and bludgeoned him to death using a stone. The Perumanallur police arrested Mathiazhagan and booked Krithiga for her involvement in the crime under Sections 449 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
The case was tried before the Tirupur additional sessions court-II. After the prosecution proved the case against both the accused, Judge A Mohmed Jiyaputheen awarded them life imprisonment. Mathiazhagan was sentenced to an additional 10 years imprisonment for trespassing into Kesavan’s house. However, the terms would run concurrently.
