Transgender community represented for the first time

MES Mampad College, Mampad, emerged champions of the Calicut University C-zone arts festival at Tenhipalam on Sunday. PSMO College, Tirurangadi, was the runner-up. Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, and NSS College, Manjeri, grabbed the third and fourth positions.

PSMO College won the first prize in Mappilapattu and folk dance group events. In Kavyakeli, Alakananda P.K. from MES Mampad College won the first prize. In folk dance for women, Varsha Jayan form Fatima Arts and Science College, Nilambur, came first.

In Aksharaslokam, Sandra N.N. from KR Sreenarayana College, Valanchery, won the first prize. In Thullal, Sreebesh U.P. from JM College of Arts and Science, won the first prize.

In Daff Muttu, Mohammed Rafi and team from Assabah Arts and Science College, Malappuram, came first.

For the first time in the history of university arts festival, Riya Isha presented a folk dance representing the transgender category. “It is a beginning. I want other transgender people not to miss such opportunities,” said Riya.
