Diesel gensets polluting air: Sector 14 residents
TNN | Mar 4, 2019, 01:34 ISTGURUGRAM: Residents of Sector 14 have written to CM against the diesel generators in the area saying that they are causing pollution. MCG had also reviewed the matter following the complaint filed with the pollution control board (PBC) by the residents last month. They said that the MCG had promised swift action last week.
MCG officials told TOI that they will have to examine how many people are affected. “It has to be verified how many people this is affecting. The issue becomes a public concern if too many people are affected. Then PCB too will have to intervene. We will check the placement of generators and the building plans before any proper action is taken,” an MCG official said.
“Breathing problems are being caused due to the installation of high powered generators in the market in close vicinity of the residential area. As per norms, these generators are supposed to be placed on the terrace with their exhaust pipes reaching 10 feet high. But that is not being followed here. They are kept on the road and affect public health.” said HS Nanda, president RWA Sector 14.
“The SDO of the pollution control board had visited the market and he passed on the responsibility to MCG. We have previously complained to MCG as well but nothing was done.”
