Patna: Two all-women buses launched

PATNA: State transport minister Santosh Kumar Nirala flagged off two all-women buses on route number 111A at a function held at Gandhi Maidan on Saturday.
“The first bus from Magadh Mahila College (MMC) will stop at Dak Bungalow roundabout, Income Tax roundabout, Patna Women’s College (PWC), Hartali Mor, Raja Bazaar, Jagdeo Path, Gola Road, IPS Mor, Saguna Mor and Danapur,” Nirala said, adding the second bus from PWC would also cover the same route to reach Danapur.
Both the buses will begin their journeys at 2.30pm every day. Nirala said, “The two buses have been introduced to ensure the safety of girls and women in the city. They can also be used by school students and working women.”
The minister urged women and girls to come forward and register their complaints and give feedback on toll free number 6204750106.
Transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal and other senior officials of the department were also present on the occasion.
PWC student Anuradha Singh hailed the decision. She told this newspaper, “The all-women bus service is a boon for us. My sister, who studies at Carmel High School, and I can go back home together.”
Mayuri, a BCA student of MMC, said girls would not have to wait for autorickshaws now.
2 more buses from tomorrow: Two more buses will be flagged off from PWC and MMC to Patna City (route number 555) from Monday.
According to transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, “The bus from PWC will cover Patna Junction, Chandmari Road, Kankerbagh Colony, Tiwary Bechar, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Bahadurpur Gumti, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, Kumhrar Park, Dhanuki Mor, Zero Mile, Chhoti Pahari Mor, Tent City Mor, Mangal Talab Mor and Patna Sahib station.”
The one from MMC will also cover the same route till Patna City via Biscomaun Bhawan and Dak Bungalow.
The 36-seater buses will be equipped with speed governors, closed-circuit television cameras, global positioning system, fire extinguishers and first-aid facilities. The minimum fare will be Rs 5 and maximum Rs 15, depending on the distance covered.
