Two poachers held for killing sambar in Mysuru

Forest department officials nabbed two poachers who killed a sambar at the Cauvery Wildlife SanctuaryMysuru: Two persons were arrested on charges of poaching sambar deers in Muguru reserve forest under Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary in Ramanagar district two days ago.
Shivarudra, 58, and Bommegowda (40), both residents of Kotekoppa village in Kanakpura taluk, were arrested following a tip-off. The foresters also seized the meat of sambar stag from them.
According to foresters, they visited Andedappanakere lake inside the forest and found the poachers who had killed a stag.
The duo allegedly entered the forest on Thursday night and killed the stag using a country-made gun. They had cut the stag into pieces and were trying to shift the meat out of the forest in the wee hours of Friday when officials led by range forest officer (RFO) Kumar N M and DFO Vijaya Mudabagilu surrounded them.
The foresters managed to catch Shivarudra and Bommegowda. However, during the chase, four others —Nagaraju (47), Shivanaik (50), Abhi (28) and Basavaraju (41)—managed to escape.
The foresters seized 70 kg of meat, one country-made gun which was used to hunt the sambar, a torch, a machete and two knives from them. They were produced before the court which sent them to judicial custody, said Vijaya Mudabagilu.
