Speed up online building plan approval system: Engineers’ body
TNN | Mar 3, 2019, 07:49 ISTLudhiana: In view of a large number of complaints regarding illegal construction, an engineers’ body has suggested to the local bodies department to address problems in the online building plan approval system.
In their suggestions, members of Council of Engineers have mentioned that there is a need to expedite the online system so that people could get their building plans approved as soon as possible which will help lessen illegal structures in the city.
The members said delay in processing of online building plans is due to shortage of technical staff. This problem can be resolved by constituting committees comprising professionals including engineers and architects at all major urban local body levels.
The members also suggested that there should be three-stage certificates along with photographs, which should be made mandatory for registered professionals, whoever submit building plans with the department.
“Also, all the approved building plans are public properties and the department has to spend a lot of time in providing information related to approved plans under the provisions of RTI Act, 2005. Therefore, it is suggested that all approved building plans may please be uploaded in public domain that is on website of online building plan system,” the council said.
It is further suggested that provisions for filing complaints against illegal constructions by citizens as whistleblowers may also be made so that anyone can upload the photographs and information of ongoing illegal construction in cities, the council added.
Online building plan approval system has been working slowly. Even municipal town planner Monica Anand had recently written a letter to the company representatives to fix the issues.
