One person died and another was seriously injured when a speeding mini lorry rammed their motorcycles on Kunnumpuram overbridge near Manjummal Junction on Saturday around 1.45 p.m.
The deceased was identified as K.B. Abhilash, 31, of Cherai.
V.D. Deepak, 19, of North Paravur, who was grievously injured, was initially taken to a hospital at Edappally before being shifted to a multispecialty hospital where he remains on ventilator.
According to the police, the rashly driven lorry headed in the direction of North Paravur was attempting to overtake the vehicle ahead of it in violation of the lane traffic when it rammed the two motorcycles and an autorickshaw headed in the opposite direction before coming to a halt.
The autorickshaw driver was lucky to escape with minor injuries.
