Indore: A man impersonating as an army captain was arrested by city crime branch police on Friday. He was involved in financial fraud in name of providing goods at cheap prices from army canteen. He put many women in love trap faking as an army officer.
HOW WAS HE NABBED?
Additional Superintendent of Police (crime) Amarendra Singh said acting on a tip-off, the police arrested 25-year-old Shubhamkant Chaturvedi, a resident of Jagjeevanram Nagar, for committing financial fraud. He belongs to Chanderi in Ashok Nagar and was staying in the city for more than two years.
During police questioning, the accused allegedly confessed that he posed as an army captain to dupe people. He wanted to join Indian army but he could not be selected after which he started duping people impersonating as an army officer.
MODUS OPERANDI
During investigation, it was revealed that accused had contacted Dr Ankit Trivedi of Swasth Nagar a few months ago. Posing as an army officer, he told Dr Trivedi that he would buy a new bike from army canteen at cheap price (without GST and paid duty). Soon, Dr Trivedi transferred Rs 34,700 to his bank account for new bike. After taking money, accused stopped contacting Trivedi and fled. Trivedi found his mobile phone switched off many times. After that a complaint was lodged with Banganga police station staff. Since then, the police were searching him.
ASP Singh said accused could not produce any identity card or document related to his service in army. Accused reportedly told police that he had contacted many women posing himself as army officer to lay a love trap. He used to change phone and SIM card so that his victims could not contact him.
INSIDER ROLE?
It is also being investigated whether he was helped by insider and acquaintance. The police are also collecting information from army officers by writing a letter. Further investigation is on to know crime committed by the accused. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had duped a person on the pretext of providing job in army.
