Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt said on Friday that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman had shown exemplary courage even when he was a captive of Pakistan.
Speaking to presspersons here, the Pejawar seer said that by his exemplary behaviour, Mr. Varthaman had increased the prestige of India.
The seer said that the country should not go to war with Pakistan. War brought in a lot of pain and destruction.
He said that he liked the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi had handled the crisis after the Pulwama attack. “I appreciate his courage,” the seer said.
To a query, the seer said that it was not necessary to a make a controversy about former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s statement that the BJP would win 22 seats in the State after the airstrikes carried out by India on terrorist camps in Pakistan. After the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had won the India-Pakistan war in 1971 leading to the liberation of Bangladesh, it was then being said that the Indian victory would help Ms. Indira Gandhi, he said.
To another query, the seer said that he had watched the Hindi film ‘Uri’ based on surgical strikes carried out by India across the Line of Control in 2016, at a multiplex in Manipal on February 28. After seeing the film, his respect for the Indian soldiers had increased even more.
