The 2019 summer is making its arrival felt in the State, and at least four districts are expected to experience a rise in temperatures by 8o Celsius or more on Monday, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned.
Temperatures across Kerala are likely to increase by two to four degrees Celsius in the coming days. In Palakkad, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode, the average maximum temperature could go up by 8o Celsius or more on Monday, the KSDMA said in an advisory, citing weather predictions of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
“The predicted rise in temperatures is an indicator that the summer is intensifying,” Sekhar L. Kuriakose, member secretary, KSDMA, said. On Saturday, the IMD Meteorological Centre in Thiruvananthapuram reported that minimum temperature has risen appreciably in Kannur and Thrissur districts in the past 24 hours. So far, no remarkable change has been reported elsewhere in the State. Palakkad recorded 37o Celsius and Thiruvananthapuram, 36o Celsius.

According to the IMD, southern States are likely to experience a rise in summer heat over the coming days. In its national-level weather summary, the IMD has predicted a significant rise in daytime temperatures over Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh also from Sunday. The KSDMA has asked the public to avoid direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to avoid heatstroke. People should also make it a practice to carry drinking water with them in small bottles, the KSDMA said. Wearing loose, light-coloured cotton clothing will help combat the heat better, it added.
The other day, the Labour Department had rescheduled working hours or labourers, banning outdoor work between 12 noon and 3 p.m.
