Charitha resigns as MLA; to join TDP if ticket is confirmed

Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy resigned to her post, and quit the YSRCP along with her husband Venkata Reddy on Friday.

The couple will be joining the TDP on March 9 if the ruling party confirms party ticket to Ms. Charitha Reddy from Panyam. Addressing the media here, Mr. Venkata Reddy, while stating that there was no animosity towards YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, said if the TDP did not confirm party ticket, Ms. Charitha Reddy would contest as an Independent.

“Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy has spoken to me over phone, and he will take up the issue with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu,” Mr. Venkata Reddy said.

The decision to leave the YSRCP was prompted by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s failure to promise ticket to Ms. Charitha Reddy, he said. Meanwhile, speculation is rife that Mr. Jagan has plumped for Katasani Ram Bhupal Reddy.

Ties with YSR family

Talking about their long association with the family of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he said, “We stood by the family when it was going through a tough phase. We were the ones who had drafted leaders from other parties when Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted to start the party.”
