Over 50 floats make their way to Carnival in Panaji

An array of over 50 colourful floats from across Goa, in various categories made their way to the capital city for the Carnival Float Parade which began at Miramar en route Caranzalem on Saturday evening. The parade was flagged off by Minister of Tourism and Sports Manohar Babu Ajgaonkar. King Momo William Anes led the parade and declared merriment for the next four days.

Besides traditional and commercial floats there were several based on relevant issues and themes of the year that need attention. These included floats on terrorism, formalin, Kerala floods, save the tiger, environmental destruction and more.

In the fancy dress category several people were seen dressed as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Mahatma Gandhi, as various superheroes, and characters from the latest gaming craze PUBG. Traditional floats showcased their rich legacy depicting like traditional occupations, and culture of Goa. Demanding inclusion of the differently abled in the mainstream society, representatives of Disability Rights Association of Goa created awareness through their float.

People including a large number of foreign and domestic tourists thronged across the route to witness the annual Carnival parade in Panaji.
