City police interact with Kashmiri students

PUNE: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bachchan Singh recently interacted with city-based Kashmiri students in the backdrop of the Pulwama terror attack, stated a press release from the NGO Sarhad. 

Following the Pulwama attack, Kashmiri students were targeted across the country. The Supreme Court and the Prime Minister had appealed to citizens for the safety of these students.

The interaction was hosted by the Sarhad Jammu-Kashmir Students Association at the Sarhad School in the city. DCP Singh said Puneites always reciprocate manifold the good behaviour by people from outside the city. He said Kashmiri students and citizens should contact the police, if they face any problem. Singh appealed to them not to help any activity intended to disturb peace.

Association President Aquib Bhatt, Secretary Javed Wani and Vice-President Owais Wani appreciated Pune police’s readiness to help Kashmiri students.

Praising Puneites, Association Co-ordinator Jahid Bhatt said there might have been sparse incidents in the past, however, Puneites have always been helping Kashmiris in the city.   

Aquib Bhatt said they would compile data about Kashmiri students and citizens in Pune and co-ordinate with government officials concerned and other organisations. 

Senior PI Vishnu Pawar and PI Vishnu Natha Tamhane attached to the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station were present. DCP Singh said these police officers have been given the responsibility to co-ordinate with the Kashmiri students.
