‘Biz across the globe thrives in uncertainty’
TNN | Mar 3, 2019, 04:55 ISTMangaluru: Business across the globe thrives in uncertainty. Indeed, uncertainty creates challenges and opportunities. Hard times may not last long. Future business leaders need to understand this fact of life, said Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University).
He was addressing the CEOs, CFOs, and students at the Nitte-based Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management after inaugurating the Nitte CEO Conclave 2019 on a contemporary theme - ‘Building Sustainable Business during Uncertain Times - Unique Challenges and Smart Solutions.’
He added that business leaders should always focus on their customers. World’s best practices in business need to be imbibed by the future business leaders to see that they value the aspirations and expectations of all the stakeholders.
K Ullas Kamath, joint managing director, Jyothy Laboratories, Bengaluru, another guest of the conclave said there is no certain time in business. Running a business in uncertain times is easier than running a business in certain times. Quoting his own experiences, Kamath said, for his business, employees come first than customers. If an employee is happy, he will make his customers happy. Today’s challenge for a business is to make ‘employees really energised and powered’. He also said that when running a business in uncertain times success should not get into our heads and failure should not get into our hearts.
B M Farooq, MLC, and MD and CEO, Fiza Group of Industries, Bengaluru, said, “During uncertain times, we come together and get going. Future enterprises need to maintain a striking balance between short vision and long vision. This provides clarity to an entrepreneur to strive in extremely bad times.”
Dr N S Shetty, professor emeritus of the institute, said today’s equation of business is totally different from the equation in the past.
K Sankaran and A P Achar, dean of corporate programmes, were present.
