MARGAO : Fatorda police on Friday midnight conducted a raid in Karwar and Rumdamol-Davorlim and arrested four persons involved in restraining a person in Margao and robbing Rs 40 lakh from him.
Police disclosed the names of the accused as Mohammad Khan (30), Mohammad Azhar (31), Mohammad Imran (30) all residents of Rumdamol Housing Board, Margao and Shabbir Shaikh (28) resident of Gogol Housing Board, Margao. All four accused have been lodged in police custody.
Police inspector Navlesh Dessai who conducted the raids said that the Fatorda police recovered cash of Rs 35 lakh and a Maruti Ertiga car from the accused.
Police said that four persons (all have been identified) restrained a person in Margao on Monday and after assaulting him stole Rs 40 lakh cash from his possession.
After committing the robbery, three of them went to Karwar and were staying in a hotel. Police said that Shabbir Shaikh was the matermind in the robbery and was working with the complainant.
The complaint has been lodged by Abdul Haq Mullah of Ratwado Navelim. As per his complaint his staff Mohamed Siddique was restrained and assaulted by the accused and cash of Rs 40 lakh belonging to the complainant was stolen.
Fatorda police based on the complaint registered a case under Section 394 and 506 ii of IPC.
Police said that all four have been produced before JMFC Margao and a nine-day remand has been taken.
