Victim was trying to save husband; accused on the run

A woman was killed in a marriage function following an altercation between two groups over song requests to the DJ, in Mangolpuri on Saturday, the police said.

DCP (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla said the victim has been identified as 36-year-old Sunita. The two brothers — Golu and Akash — from Mangolpuri have been arrested in connection with the case, the officer said.

The police said they received a PCR call at 3 a.m. regarding a firing incident. On reaching the spot, they were informed that Sumit and Neha were getting married at Ramlila Ground when an altercation took place between one Sajjan and the accused.

“The issue was over a song to be played by the DJ. Both sides wanted different songs,” Mr. Kuruvilla said.

As the fight turned violent, the accused pulled out a pistol and aimed at Sajjan when his wife Sunita came in between to save him and got shot instead. She was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to injuries. Meanwhile, the accused managed to flee, they said.

The accused have been involved in cases of theft and snatching.
