SRINAGAR: Markaz Subhanallah, the headquarters of Jaish-e-Muhammed in Bahawalpur, is an opulent three-acre complex which houses more than 600 cadres of the Pakistan-based banned terror outfit.
It took Jaish chief Masood Azhar + three years to build the facility that houses several modern facilities including a state-of-the-art gymnasium and a swimming pool. The Bahawalpur complex has served as the ‘entry gate’ for all Jaish cadres, who were trained later at Balakot. + The residences of Masood Azhar, his brothers and his other relatives associated with JeM are located inside the complex.
Official documents accessed by TOI reveal that the Jaish headquarters was built with the help of both the provincial and federal governments. Masood Azhar also raised funds in Middle East, Africa and the UK.
Markaz Subhanallah hosts all crucial meetings of the senior-most Jaish functionaries. Every Friday, Masood Azhar’s brother, Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar or another senior functionary delivered lectures to motivate youth to participate in ‘jihad’.
The construction of the huge three-acre palatial complex began in 2012 and became operational in 2015 during Sharif’s regime. Punjab province has been both a bastion of the Sharif brothers and a hub of all Kashmir-centric banned Pakistani terror outfits.
