Delhi High Court Judge Justice Valmiki J. Mehta passed away on Friday morning due to cardiac arrest. He was cremated in the evening at the electric crematorium in Nigam Bodh Ghat here.
“Justice Mehta’s demise is a big loss to the Bar and the Bench,” the Delhi Bar Council chairman K.C. Mittal said in a statement.
Justice Mehta is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters-in-law. Justice Mehta, born in Mumbai on June 6, 1959, finished schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vishakhapatnam.
Thereafter he completed graduation in BCom (Honours) from Sri Venkateshwara College, Delhi University. Later he did his LLB from Campus Law Centre, DU. He enrolled with the Delhi Bar Council in 1982 and started law practice in the same year.
As a lawyer, he practised in Delhi High Court, local courts here and various tribunals in civil matters. At 42, he was designated as a senior advocate on September 22, 2001.
He assumed office as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court on April 15, 2009.
