A 23-year-old bull tamer was gored to death and 18 persons were injured in a jallikattu at Kallakudi village in Tiruchi district on Friday.
A total of 688 bulls brought from various places were released from the vaadivasal and 317 bull tamers took to the arena in batches.
The incident occurred when one of the tamers, M. Manikandan, sustained a grievous injury in the chest, moments after a bull galloped out of the vaadivaasal. Police sources said Manikandan was rushed to the Government Hospital at Lalgudi where he succumbed. The bull tamer hailed from Ananthimedu village near Lalgudi in the district. Eight among the injured were referred to a hospital, while 10 were treated at the venue.
Among them, 10 were bull tamers, the police added.
