On Friday, video surfaced of Baer, 61, getting into an argument with his wife Pam at a public park
Larry Baer, the CEO of the San Francisco Giants, has issued an apology after a video recording showed him getting into a physical altercation with his wife.
On Friday, TMZ released a video of Baer, 61, getting into an argument with his wife Pam at a public park. In the clip, Baer is seen aggressively attempting to pry a cell phone out of Pam’s hands, before their altercation seemingly causes her to fall to the ground in her chair.
As this is happening, Pam is heard screaming and yelling, “Oh my god! Help!”
In a separate clip, Baer walks away from the camera with a phone in his hands and appears to be very frustrated as he says, “Stop, Pam. Stop.” Meanwhile, in the background, Pam can be heard yelling, “Oh my god! Oh my god!”
Following the release of the shocking footage, Baer issued a statement to the San Francisco Chronicle and explained what led to the “embarrassing” incident, which he said was now “resolved.”
“My wife & I had an unfortunate public argument related to a family member & she had an injured foot & she fell off her chair in the course of the argument,” he told the outlet. “The matter is resolved. It was a squabble over a cell phone. Obviously, it’s embarrassing.”
In a follow-up statement on the Giants’ Twitter account, Baer apologized for “the pain that I have brought to my wife, children, and to the organization,” and said that it does not represent his character.
“It is not reflective of the kind of person that I aspire to be, but it happened and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that I never behave in such an inappropriate manner again,” he said.
A representative for the Giants did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

According to witnesses who spoke to SFC reporter Matthias Gafni, the couple had been arguing for approximately 20 minutes in the middle of the park’s food court when the fight turned physical.
At that point, two men confronted Baer, who “immediately backed off when they grabbed him.” Though no punches were thrown, police arrived at the scene to investigate the matter after seeing the story online, according to SFC.
Representatives at the San Fransisco Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Shortly after her husband’s statement on Friday, Pam’s attorney released one on her behalf, which was obtained by SFC, explaining what had transpired from her perspective.
“My husband and I had an argument in public about which we are quite embarrassed. I took his cell phone. He wanted it back and I did not want to give it back,” she said. “I started to get up & the chair I was sitting in began to tip.”
“Due to an injury I sustained in my foot 3 days ago, I lost my balance,” she continued. “I did not sustain any injury based on what happened today. Larry & I always have been & still are happily married.”
MLB also addressed the issue but said they would refrain from making comments until the investigation was complete.
“Major League Baseball is aware of the incident and, just like any other situation like this, will immediately begin to gather the facts. We will have no further comment until this process is completed,” the baseball organization said, according to Gafni.

Baer got his start with the Giants in 1980, working as a marketing director before stepping away to attend Harvard Business School, SFC reports.
In 1992, he returned to the organization and purchased the team with a group of other businessmen. By 2008, he had become the president of the Giants and worked his way up to CEO four years later.
Baer met his wife at a birthday party in 1988 and they were married two years later, SFC said. The couple shares four children together.
