Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju on Friday said that 13 new trains have been introduced in Madurai Division in the last four years and service of 12 Express trains and 4 passenger trains was extended.
Talking to the media here after participating in a function that marked flagging off Tejas Express by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing, Mr. Raju said that the frequency of Chennai-Sengottai Silambu Express had been increased from bi-weekly to tri-weekly.
Additional stoppages
Besides, additional stoppages were provided for express trains, he added.
Renovation work at Madurai Railway Junction was going at a cost of ₹10 crore.
Madurai – Bodinayakanur gauge conversion work at a cost of ₹ 302 crore was sanctioned.
Out of the 90 km of gauge conversion work, 37 km will be completed during June and completion of remaining 53 km would be done by March 2020.
Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan, Madurai Collector S. Natarajan, Divisional Railway Manager Neenu Ittyerah, and Additional Divisional Manager Lalit Kumar Mansukhani were among those who were present.
