2 school dropouts held for Rs 4 lakh con in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Dindoshi police recently arrested two school dropouts who conned an employee of a Goregaon forex firm of Rs 4 lakh after they called its office and said they want to convert Indian rupees to US and Singapore dollars as they were flying out urgently on February 1. When Pradeep Mendsure (59) arrived at Mohan Gokhale Road in Goregaon (E), they got him to sit in the cab they came in and claiming they were cops fled with US $4,000 and 2,000 Singaporean dollars.
The police found that Jetharam Mali alias Jayesh (32) from Santacruz and Rajkumar Dubey (32) from Kurla used SIM cards of stolen mobiles.

"We tried to nab the accused with the help of call data records and IMEI, but realized that the SIM used was registered in some other person's name. The two were caught after we got details of the travel agency from where they booked the cab for use in the crime. CCTV footage of the spot and from the travel agency they visited for the cab helped us to identify them," said a police officer.


On receiving a tip-off that the duo operating with similar a modus operandi would be go to SV Road in Vile Parle (W), additional commissioner of police (north) Rajesh Pradhan supervised a team of DCP (zone XII) Vinay Rathod, senior inspector Rajaram Vhanmane, inspector Ganesh Pawar and detection staff laid a trap and arrested the accused.


Mendsure, after alerting his employer approached police. Investigators learnt that Dubey sells mobiles he steals and uses the SIMs in a Chinese mobile.


The duo has been booked for personating a public servant and cheating.
