R. Rajagopal, 50, of Nadupatti near Pachaperumalpatti in the district was sentenced to undergo 10-year imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The accused had allegedly abused the girl sexually for some time by enticing her with gifts and when her parents fixed her marriage with another person, he had called up the Childline to complain of child marriage.
The girl was rescued by the district authorities. Later upon medical examination, it came to light that the girl was pregnant after she complained of pain in the abdomen. She had narrated how the accused had sexually abused her. Following this, Rajagopal was arrested in February 2017, according to the Public Prosecutor R.Venkatesan.
Sessions Judge, Mahila Court, G.Mahizhenthi, who heard the case, sentenced the accused Rajagopal to undergo 10 years imprisonment each under Sections 5 (l) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. However, the sentences will run concurrently.
