Denying any setback in the wake of the Delhi High Court upholding the decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to allot the ‘two leaves’ symbol to the AIADMK group headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Thursday said the party will go in for a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the order of the High Court.

Speaking to reporters here, he contended that he and V.K. Sasikala, former interim general secretary of the AIADMK were part of the AIADMK and they had the right to seek the ‘two leaves’ symbol in the Apex court.

Mr. Palaniswami was in no way a gainer (from this) as the people would defeat the candidates of the AIADMK in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Dhinakaran said.

“It is not the symbol that matters for us because even if our candidates contest the Parliamentary polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on their individual symbols they will romp home. We will also make out a strong case for allotment of the cooker symbol to us,” he said.

Mr. Dhinakaran pointed out that the High Court verdict had not caused any dislocation or setback in the AMMK’s stand because the party led by Mr. Palaniswami had lost its image in the R.K. Nagar bypolls, in which the AMMK emerged victorious.

He said that he did not seek registration of AMMK with the ECI “since we would lose all our rights in seeking the two leaves symbol if we registered.” Whatever be the claim of Mr. Palaniswami and his cabinet colleagues, the people will not listen to them and would reject the AIADMK in the polls, he added.
