Loads of garbage and construction debris are being dumped near Nesapakkam Sewage Treatment Plant of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) on the 500-metre-long Anna Main Road in K.K. Nagar.

Last January, the Greater Chennai Corporation took strict measures against dumping of garbage on this stretch.

Also, it erected a notice board that warns passersby that against dumping of garbage. But no one pays any heed to it. Around four months ago, the practice of dumping began again.

The garbage mounds can be found near an Amma Canteen of the Greater Chennai Corporation and a drinking water facility of CMWSSB.

Also, many cabs and mangled auto-rickshaws can be found abandoned on the footpath and road margins of the stretch. In addition, truck and lorries are parked on this stretch. Only the space in front of the treatment plant has been spared. All these has reduced the 60-feet-wide Anna Main Road to half its width and creates traffic chaos.

“During night, we find it difficult to take note of the garbage heaps,” said K. Sivakumar, a motorist from K.K. Nagar.

“Appropriate steps will be taken to put an end to this practice,” says a Corporation official.
