Loganair’s managing director, Jonathan Hinkles attended the inaugural service in the morning. There was a short ceremony at the airport which was sound-tracked by a traditional Scottish piper.
Later at 10:35 a return service from London Stansted arrived into Derry and the trips were operated by a 49-seat Embraer 145 aircraft.
There are two services provided by Loganair each weekday and on Sunday. As a part of the Derry City and Strabane District Council public service obligation contract there was a single Saturday flight.
There was an announcement by the carrier for a daily schedule to Manchester on board at 49-seat Embraer 145 jet aircraft.
Hinkles was pleased to be able to continue the vital air link between Derry and London Stansted.
He said that the bookings were extremely positive that re-enforces the importance of the route to the region.
He was looking forward to build on a successful start with the new Derry to Manchester schedule which will start from May 24th.
On the Embraer 145 jet aircraft both Stansted and Manchester will operate and along with the current Glasgow service the total being served by Loganair from Delhi will be three.
