Hemanta Pradhan | TNN | Mar 2, 2019, 04:05 ISTBhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to inaugurate the second campus of Utkal University at Chandikhole in Jajpur district on Saturday, government chief whip and local MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy said on Friday.
Satpathy said the university will operate from its temporary campus at Baba Bhairabananda College near the demarcated site for the permanent rural campus till the time its construction is complete.
Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, vice chancellor of Utkal University, said two courses will be introduced in the rural campus initially. These include a Master’s degree in public health and MBA in rural management. “We are ready to start these courses from this session itself. Teachers have been recruited and the syllabi for the two courses are ready. We will start the classes right away after the inauguration of the rural campus. We will introduce more courses later on.”
Official sources said the university will offer some more courses keeping the needs of the industries near the campus in mind. Jajpur district, which houses the campus, boasts of mining areas such as Sukinda and industrial belts such as Kalinga Nagar.
Patnaik said the state government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the rural campus. “We have started the construction of the campus at Chandikhole. We will also set up a technology park on the campus to promote and develop indigenous technology and create skilled manpower and entrepreneurs,” he added.
The state government had demarcated 66.3 acres of land near the Baba Bhairabananda College at Chandikhole for the campus. But it got embroiled in land acquisition problems delaying the construction of the campus. The higher education minister Anant Das could finally lay the foundation for the second campus on July 31 in 2017.
