Garden raised at Taramani police station

A word of advice from the City Police Commissioner led to this initiative

Bearing some greenery now, the J 13 Taramani police station at Nehru Street (in Taramani), looks smarter than ever before. The greening exercise began six months ago, when City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, who was visiting the station, remarked to the J 13 police personnel the facility could certainly do with more greenery.

Acting on the advice, M.S. Bhaskar, Inspector, Law and Order — Taramani and his team, hunkered down to the task of raising a garden.

“There has been recycling of discarded material. Bricks, lamps and canes that had been discarded elsewhere have reused in the making of this garden. We just bought the seeds and saplings and the gardener of an IT company helped in setting up the whole place,” says Bhaskar.

The flowering plants at the garden include hibiscus, rangoon jasmine, canna, basil and yellow trumpet.

Vegetables grown at the garden include lady’s finger and bitter gourd.

A fish pond with lotus plants has been created.

Provisions have been made in the garden for feeding birds.

A flagpole has been erected in the middle of the garden.

Soon, tree saplings will be planted and a walkway will be created around the garden.
