SOMERSET — The Somerset Democratic Town Committee has announced plans for its annual Candidates Night to be held on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. in the Somerset Middle School Auditorium. According to the host committee, State Rep. Patricia A. Haddad will again serve as this year’s moderator of the forum, and it will again be recorded by Somerset Access Television, with the show airing several times prior to the town’s April 8 election. The event will not be televised live.

According to Democratic Town Committee Chair person Jim Pimental, “The forum will be two hours in duration. In addition, the committee will give all candidates in both contested and uncontested races the opportunity to make a two-minute statement.” Those in uncontested races will also be able to answer any questions from the panel. The committee is making arrangements with Somerset Access Television for candidates who are running in all races for town boards or offices to record a candidate’s statement. These statements will air prior to the town election on April 8.

The Committee will have questions posed by panelists from local media outlets. According to Pimental, “This is a venue for the townspeople to evaluate the positions of each candidate in a fair and unbiased manner.” The forum is open to Somerset residents free of charge and is not presented as a partisan event, but rather as a community service.
