Rajasthan Governor for increasing artistes’ pay

‘Request will be sent to the Centre’

Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh has rooted for increasing the remuneration paid to folk artistes invited to perform in the events organised by the government and private bodies. “Artistes come from the far-off villages and make great efforts to preserve our art and culture through their performances,” Mr. Singh said.

Mr. Singh was a addressing a meeting of the governing body and executive board of the West Zone Cultural Centre, which he heads, at Raj Bhawan here. He said the WZCC would increase the payments made to artistes from ₹800 to ₹2,000 each and an official request in this regard would be sent to the Union Ministry of Culture.

The WZCC, headquartered in Udaipur, is engaged in the promotion of various art forms of western States and connecting the people living in urban, rural and tribal areas with their cultural roots. It represents four States - Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa.

Shilpgram expansion

The Governor gave instructions for expansion of ‘Shilpgram’, which has been established by WZCC as a craft village in Udaipur for depicting the architecture, traditional arts and diversity and aesthetic sense of the four States.

Mr. Singh said the annual ‘Shilpgram Utsav’ organised in Udaipur would also be popularised.
