MANGALURU: Karnataka minister for women and child development Jayamala on Friday appointed a person from transgender community as an office assistant in her office in Vidhan Soudha, Bengaluru.
The minister has appointed the person considering various problems the community is facing in society.
Parichaya Gowda, a transgender from Mysuru, has been appointed on an outsourced basis, started working from Friday. Jayamala said the move will instil more confidence in the community and it will be a step towards bringing them to the mainstreams of the society.
“The idea of bringing people from sexual minority to the mainstream of the society should not be just a subject for speeches. It is our duty to support them by giving them opportunities to live independently in society. To make this idea a reality, I have appointed a person from the community in my own office. This is a good beginning and I am happy about it. I am confident that people from the community can also achieve goals in society if they are given the right opportunity,” Jayamala said.
