GAYA: The Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) at Gaya has been allowed to introduce postgraduate teaching in gynaecology.
The notification for the purpose was issued by the secretary of Union ministry of health and family welfare last week. College principal Dr H G Agrawal said he received the letter to this effect on Thursday.
As per the official communication, the college has been allowed to admit two students in PG course in each academic session. Initially, the permission has been granted for five years starting February 2019. The college will have to apply for the renewal before the expiry of the five-year period, the letter stated.
The official letter further states that before giving recognition to the PG course, the apex body of the medical education in the country considered the compliance report dated August 14 last submitted by the college and the compliance verification assessment report dated November 2 last.
Welcoming the decision, Dr Agrawal hoped similar recognition for PG teaching in other areas of medical education would also be given in near future.
According to the principal, the faculty strength of the college was satisfactory. “Almost 89% of the teaching positions in the college are full. Efforts are being made to recruit faculty members for the remaining 11% teaching positions in the college. The 11% deficiency was well within the permissible limit,” he said. Similarly, in respect of resident doctors, 92% of the posts are full.
The principal said the Continuing Medical Education Programme for updating the teachers and students with the latest developments in different branches of medical science are held in the college every month.
