Markram, Behardien share world record stand to down Cobras

Cape Town - A world record 272-run sixth-wicket stand between Aiden Markram and Farhaan Behardien paved the way for the Titans to beat the Cape Cobras in their One-Day Cup encounter in Cape Town on Friday.

The visitors won by 83-runs after first amassing 320 for six in their allotted overs, before bowling out the hosts for 237 in just 40.5 overs to seal a memorable win.

It was a result built around the brilliance of the Markram-Behardien stand - both players striking centuries in the process. The former, who later starred with the ball, sizzled to 169 off 129 balls (15 fours, 7 sixes) with the latter striking 111 off 100 (8 fours, 4 sixes).

Their effort broke the previous best record for the sixth wicket of 267* between Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi for New Zealand against Sri Lanka at Dunedin in January 2015.

They did it after their side found themselves in massive trouble after losing the toss and being put into bat at Newlands.

They found themselves on 31 for five after Rory Kleinveldt (3/36) and Akhona Mnyaka (3/57) blew away the top order.

Markram and Behardien then spectacularly led the recovery with each recording their fifth List A tons in the process, the latter ending unbeaten.

The Cobras lost Hashim Amla (10) early in the reply, but Janneman Malan's 71 (77 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) kept them in the mix.

He put on 60 with Zubayr Hamza (24), who fell with the score on 76 followed by injury returnee JP Duminy, playing his first game in four-and-a-half months, for a second ball duck.

Malan, though, kept going, and alongside David Bedingham (50 off 63 balls, 3 fours) added a further 71 for the fourth wicket.

But once both fell, the Cobras began to panic and lost their way.

They were eventually bowled out with nearly 10 overs to go as Markram also ended as pick of the bowlers with two for 24. Junior Dala (2/42) and Gregory Mahlokwana (2/56) also bagged double strikes as the Titans made it two bonus point wins from four matches.
