CM to open bridge over Barak river in Silchar today
tnn | Mar 2, 2019, 04:33 ISTSilchar: Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday will inaugurate a bridge over the Barak river in Silchar. The new bridge will connect Silchar town with Silchar Aiport at Kumbhirgram and NH-37 in Imphal, thus replacing the old Sadarghat Bridge which is in a dilapidated condition.
After the ceremonial inauguration of the new bridge at Sadarghat and Rangpur — on the two sides of the river — at noon, the chief minister will symbolically lay the foundation for a slew of projects, inaugurating them through a remote controlled device from a programme at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar.
The projects include a bridge over Barak river at Itkhola, which will connect Silchar and the remote Borkhola locality of Cachar district, a sports stadium at the Police Parade Ground, an auditorium at District Library Silchar, a cultural and research centre at Assam University Silchar and the much-awaited mini secretariat at Barak Valley.
The chief minister will be accompanied by minister for finance and health, Himanta Biswa Sarma, an official communiqué said on Friday.
