At the intersection of Pallavan Salai and E.V. R. Periyar Salai, this traffic signal often plays hide-and-seek

Here’s a traffic signal that will put your neck to some exercise. Located at the intersection of Pallavan Salai and E.V. R. Periyar Salai at Park Town, it is at a lower height, and therefore, forces motorcyclists to crane their neck to see what it has to say.

This traffic signal is found outside the Chennai Central Railway Station on E.V. R. Periyar Salai.

A section of motorcyclists are said to have requested the Greater Chennai Traffic Police that the the signal-post be replaced with one of suitable height.

Due to how the signal post has been installed, when tall vehicles, especially MTC buses, halt beyond the stop line, motorists coming from Anna Salai are unable to have a cleat view of the signal.

As a result, these motorists are in a fix whether to proceed or not.

On seeing this, motorists from Chennai Beach and George Town jump the signal and proceed towards Chennai Egmore. After realising that the signal is showing green, motorists from Mount Road cut through the flow of vehicular traffic towards Chennai Egmore, adding to the chaos and increasing the risk of collision, says S. Nandini, a motorist.
