More than 5,000 police personnel will create the security cover for President Ram Nath Kovind during his stay here on Sunday and Monday.
Mr. Kovind will take part in two official programmes namely awarding of President’s Colours to two Indian Air Force units in a ceremonial parade to be held at Air Force Station, Sulur, and the Shivaratri observance to be held at Isha Yoga Centre on March 4.
Senior police officers, who are in the know of the security arrangements, said that the President is scheduled to arrive in Coimbatore on Sunday afternoon. His stay has been arranged at the Circuit House, which comes in the limits of the Coimbatore City Police.
The Coimbatore City Police will deploy between 1,500 and 2,000 police personnel to create the security cover for the President within the city limits.
The President will leave for Air Force Station, Sulur, via road on Monday morning. After the event at Sulur, he will return to the Circuit House.
The President is scheduled to travel to Isha Yoga via chopper from Coimbatore airport where the Shivaratri observance will be held from 6 p.m. on Monday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
A release issued by Isha Yoga Centre said that the President will visit the Dhyanalinga, the Linga Bhairavi Devi and the Suryakund before proceeding to Adiyogi staute where Shivratri event will be held. He will also participate in the ‘Pancha Bhuta Aradhana’ at the Dhyanalinga.
He will later join Isha Yoga founder Jaggi Vasudev in paying tributes to the martyrs of Pulwama by planting saplings at the centre.
The President will leave the venue for the airport via road.
The Coimbatore Rural Police will deploy 3,700 policemen to create security cover for the President on routes coming under their limits during the visit to Sulur and Ishya Yoga.
Apart from Mr. Kovind, Ministers and celebrities are scheduled to attend the Shivaratri obsrevance, said police sources.
