Hospital rallies metropolitan community to raise $1 million for lifesaving care for kids

During the month of March, Children’s National is partnering with more than 110 local businesses and the community to raise $1 million for children’s health. Make March Matter invites consumers to shop, dine and donate to ensure every child receives exceptional care at Children’s National—one of the nation’s top five pediatric hospitals and the premier provider of pediatric care in the Washington, D.C. region.

Through March 31, businesses and organizations across the region are hosting fundraisers to inspire their customers and employees and to build a community that supports children’s health. Some are contributing a percentage of sales, donating an amount per item sold or asking customers to give at the register.

“Community is a major part of what we do at Children’s National,” said DeAnn Marshall, MHA, president of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. “I am thrilled by the outpouring of support from our partners and grateful for their commitment to Make March Matter. Their support is a testament to what our community can accomplish when we unite for our kids.”

Every donation supports the nonprofit hospital in its efforts to find cures, fuel innovation and provide world-class care to every child, regardless of illness, injury or ability to pay. Last year alone, Children’s National treated more than 237,000 patients, provided more than $71 million in uncompensated care and more than $128 million in community benefit.

“We’re fortunate to live in an area with a world-class children’s hospital in our backyard. It’s a good feeling to have an organization like this around and available to everyone. It’s an even better feeling to play a small part in helping continue their lifesaving mission,” said Timothy Lowery, general manager of CityCenterDC. “I encourage the entire D.C. area to join us in supporting Children’s National this March. Let’s build a stronger sense of community of care.”

Fox News anchor Bret Baier and his wife Amy are matching gifts made on MakeMarchMatterDC.org up to $100,000. The Baiers’ son Paul is a Children’s National patient and a 2019 Make March Matter ambassador.
