Kerala University plans programmes for promoting research activities

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala University is set to launch a flurry of programmes aimed at promoting research activities in the oldest varsity in the state.
As part of this, the university has decided to start post-doctoral fellowship programmes for attracting research fellows to science departments under the varsity.
According to university sources and documents, the post-doctoral fellowship would be in the lines of the same offered by national agencies. The university has set aside Rs 25 lakh for the programme, which would commence during the next academic year.
The varsity has also decided to set up a university level advisory committee comprising of retired vice chancellors, statutory officers and professors. The committee is being set up with a plan to elicit expert opinions from them for the creative development of academic front.
In the lines of the UGC's adjunct faculty model programme, Kerala university would introduce a `scholar in resident programme', the mention about which was made in the varsity budget presented here on the other day. Renowned scholars, retired professors, luminaries in industrial-social and cultural sectors would interact with university students. The varsity has set aside Rs 40 lakh for the programme.
The university has also decided to enhance the research fellowship amount by Rs 1000. PhD fellowship would be enhanced to Rs 20,000 and the number of PhD fellowships would be increased to 40.
